VOYAGER 34' Hunter
On Oct 21, 2020 in the height of the pandemic I bought a boat with the dream of sailing around the world. I have successfully navigated my way south from Annapolis through the Bahamas and arrived at the Dominican Republic (DR) May 1, 2021. The original plan was to stay only for a hurricane season. The Universe had other plans for me.

“Life is about change. Sometimes it’s painful sometimes it’s beautiful most of the time it’s both.” -Lana Lang
I’ve learned to come to grips with the uncertainty of my future. While living in the Dominican Republic (DR) I knew a day would come when Corporate would release a return to office memo mandate.
I'm not in a financial position right now to retire so I need to work. My particular job has no logical or rational reason for our team to be in the office. So until I find something else to sustain my lifestyle I will joyfully play the game. I’m tremendously grateful for the two years of remote work because I took full advantage of the time.
For those that don't know, with no experience I bought a sailboat in Annapolis August 8th 2020 in the height of the pandemic. I set sail Oct 21, 2020 heading south. After a year of sailing and exploring the East Coast of America, The Bahamas (several islands), and Turks and Caicos I dropped anchor in the Dominican Republic where I lived for a year.

I was told that Dominican Republic (DR) is a black hole for sailors. Many arrive and never leave. It definitely had that affect on me. My plan was to stay only a few months through the hurricane season of 2021 and then continue South/East to Grenada. However I fell in-love several times with DR and ended up staying a year.
I explored ninety percent of the island on a motorcycle I bought. You would not believe all the amazing places I stayed. Remote villages, treehouses, huge villas, bubbles (yes an eco friendly bubble), expensive 5-star retreats, and the list goes on and on. I was staying somewhere new every weekend. I immersed myself deep in the culture and was making plans to stay with only one challenge; consistent income.

I hoped that the journey would generate income from posts, t-shirts, notebooks/ journals, and donations. Currently I generated less than two thousand dollars over two years which is eighty three dollars a month. Maybe one day I will figure out a sustainable social media life, but for now I rely on my 9-5.
It’s hard to explain my relationship with the Universe/GOD and how things happen. Maybe my stories will make sense but, for now just know that the Universe / GOD had made other plans for me.
How the ball started rolling was a simple half joke about selling my boat and buying one of the properties I looked at. The math was solid but I still required a monthly income. I wrote up a few business plans that were reasonably cautious. I mentioned to a YouTube couple I would sell my boat. In less than two weeks I had received three offers. It caught me off guard because there were several boats for sale and I didn’t expect to get as much as was asking.

Just know that everything was happening fast and the timing turned out to be perfect. With the boat sold I could return to Maryland and plead my case of 100% remote to my job. I could also take time to discuss my plans with my sister and a few friends to invest in the business proposal.

I hope that the DMV doesn't mind me staying for a while. It's in the Universe/GOD hands.
More to come
